Craft-Based Product Development
◦ Begampur (Srirampore subdivision of Hooghly district) is a place where 80% of the people and their families are involved in weaving. Weaving, dyeing, making yarn rolls, starching, denting and drumming all task are done by the weavers and their family members.
◦ Weavers are residents of this village and are experts in weaving mathapar sarees; plain woven with coloured borders, and with dobby bordered design, this product is traditionally know as begumpuri sarees.
PROJECT AIMS
To gain insight through a diagnostic study into resource, speciality, environment, demography and specific realities of the targeted craft cluster
To be able to find out the market demand and that way come up with new designs that can be taken to market
To develop new designs using traditional motifs and ultimately construct a novel garment design.
